Susan T. Vaughan

Posted on Thursday, 16th March 2017 | Lafayette

Susan T. Vaughan was the daughter of Dorothy and Clark Tilden and little sister of John D. and Robert C. Tilden. After graduating from Iowa State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Susan married Charles H. Vaughan in December 1952. The young couple was immediately sent by the Air Force to Alaska which was still a U.S. territory at the time. What an adventure for a girl from Ames, Iowa and her new husband from Oak Park, Illinois.

Returning to the “lower 48” and civilian life, Chuck and Susan set out on an adventurous journey that lasted almost fifty years and took them all over the world. It was a highlight when, in 1966 the Vaughan family found themselves in Milan, Italy for a two-year assignment with IBM’s World Trade Division. Always being one to take advantage of a new experience, Susan guided her family all through Europe showing her “boys” the Coliseum in Rome, Italy to the Student Prison at the University of Heidelberg, Germany and everything in between.

In 1968 Susan and the family moved to Boulder, Colorado. It was here that she earned her certification by the Library of Congress as a Braille transcriber.  Being an avid reader herself it was her joy to transcribe books for more than 10 years. Susan was a long-time member of P.E.O. Chapter CZ in Boulder. Susan also helped start Happy Hazels neighborhood organization with Frasier Meadows in Boulder.  Beyond her role in these organizations, she enjoyed travel, golf, playing bridge with her close friends, reading, Bible Study Fellowship and spending time with her family.

Susan went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 10, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers. Missing her love and support will be her three sons; Michael T. Vaughan (Patricia) of Colorado Springs, Steven T. Vaughan (Kathryn) of Overland Park, Kansas, and Charles M. Vaughan (Deborah) of Superior, Colorado, as well as seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews including Nancy Burianek of Boulder with whom she shared a special bond.
