James Avery Watkins, 99, passed away October 4, 2012 in Covina, California. He was born on January 16, 1913 in Parsons, Kansas to William E. and Ada (Rogers) Watkins. He graduated from Florence High School in 1931. James was employed by the Ideal Cement Company for 39 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Broadway Southern Baptist Church, and had duel membership of the Masons at Fremont Lodge #97 and in Escondido, CA Daylight Lodge #843. He also belonged to the Royal Arch and Scottish Rite of CA, Shriners Al Kaly Temple of Pueblo, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows #98. Mr. Watkins is survived by his sister Billie Desmartin of Wellborn, FL; step-son John M. (Joanne) Jacobson; step-daughter, Donna (Larry) Gall; 14 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 34 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris John Watkins in 1968; second wife Leona Jacobson Watkins in 1984; and step-son William Jacobson in 1981. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012 at Florence Historic Chapel at 120 N. Pikes Peak in Florence, CO. Interment will follow at Union Highland Cemetery in Florence, CO. Arrangements are handled through Holt Family Florence Historic Funeral Home.
