Darleen Annette Sanders was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on November 15, 1933. She married Charles Richard Sanders on October 25, 1952.
The couple have 5 children – Carel (Brex Wollin) of Watertown, Wisconsin; David (Sun Yung) of Franklin, North Carolina; Bruce of Keenesburg, Colorado; Barry (Mona) of Franklin, North Carolina; Joy (Brian Schaffer) of Vernal, Utah. 14 grandchildren – Jennifer, Brex Jr, Jackie, Linda, Sharon, Tabitha, Jonathan, Melanie, Heather, Joseph, Corie, Amber, Tyler and Sabrina.34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
Darleen met Charles at an ice skating rink when she was a student at Northwestern Bible College in Minnesota in 1951. They dated for a year and were married at First Baptist Church in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
For 23 years she was a faithful pastor’s wife in various churches starting in Eau Claire, Wisconsin; then Rock Falls, Wisconsin; then Watertown, Wisconsin; and Boulder, Colorado.
When Charles became an evangelist, she traveled with him for 41 years to many states and foreign countries serving the Lord.
Darleen loved her husband dearly, as well as her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and remembered them in prayer, by name, daily. Each one also received a birthday card every year. She enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together, working on the computer, crocheting blankets and doing Sudoku and Word Searches. She was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in 2010 and has struggled with breathing, a broken hip and most recently a broken arm. But, inspite of it all, she was victorious until the Lord took her home to glory on March 11, 2017. Her faith was one of total trust in the Lord regardless of circumstances. She was a great inspiration to pastor’s wives and churches where they traveled. She will be greatly missed by her husband, her entire family and many church friends.
Isaiah 40:31 was one of her favorite Bible verses which says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers (Duane and Gordan), and 2 grandchildren (Benjamin and Angel).
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Lafayette, Colorado, where she was a member.
